Authorities in Utah say 19 wildfires so far this year have been sparked by target shooting. And they say the dry and windy conditions could bring more of those ignitions.
Last year, authorities counted 24 wildfires sparked by guns, and 20 the year before.
There's only so much the state can do to prevent them. According to the Salt Lake Tribune, cities can restrict certain types of ammunition and targets for fire safety, but gun laws limit those regulations at the state level.
Elsewhere in the West, authorities in Colorado are investigating whether recreational shooting started a wildfire covering more than 1,100 acres near Lake George over the weekend.
