WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Wichita police say a 71-year-old massage parlor employee shot and killed a man who attempted to rob the business Wednesday afternoon. 

The shooting happened at around 3:30 p.m. at Beijing Massage at 2723 Boulevard Plaza, near Lincoln and George Washington Blvd.

Capt. Aaron Moses said officers arrived to find a 44-year-old Robexy Figueroa, who was from Wyoming, in the business with multiple gunshot wounds. He died at the scene. A 71-year-old man had also been shot multiple times. He underwent surgery and is expected to survive.

"At this preliminary stage, it is believed that the deceased male was attempting to commit an armed robbery of the business and there was an exchange of gunfire," Moses said. "The injured male is believed to be an employee."

The case will be presented to the district attorney's office for review.

A 44-year-old man is dead and another is in the hospital after a shooting inside a massage parlor in southeast Wichita.

The shooting happened at around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Beijing Massage at 2723 Boulevard Plaza, near Lincoln and George Washington Blvd.

Capt. Chad Beard with the Wichita Police Department said investigators believe the man who died and a 70-year-old man were involved in some kind of altercation that led to both of them being shot.

"At this point, we believe that the two people that were inside the business are the only two that were involved in this incident," Capt. Beard said.

Responders took the 70-year-old man to the hospital in critical condition.

"He is currently in immediate surgery," Beard said at the scene. "He is expected to survive at this point."

Beard said that someone inside the massage parlor made the call to 911.

"We will be looking for any other evidence including video evidence that may be nearby."

The shooting remains under investigation by WPD homicide detectives.
