WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A 33-year-old woman has been charged in connection to a crash that killed her 4-year-old daughter and injured her 2-year-old son in Sedgwick County last year.

Court records show charges of DUI involuntary manslaughter and DUI aggravated battery were filed against Britne Costello on May 3. She was booked into jail Thursday evening.

The crash happened on February 19, 2023 near MacArthur and 199th Street West, just south of Goddard. An accident report stated Costello's vehicle went off the road, hit a culvert and rolled three times, trapping her and her two children inside.

Deputies arrived to find the vehicle on fire. Costello and the children, a 2-year-old boy and 4-year-old girl, were hospitalized in critical condition. The girl died of her injuries.

Costello, of Douglass, remains jailed on $250,000 and is ordered to have no contact with victims or state's witnesses.
