WINFIELD, Kan. (KAKE) - A 53-year-old woman was killed when her motorcycle crashed into a deer in Cowley County early Wednesday morning.

The crash happened shortly before 5:30 a.m. on U.S. 160 near 31st Road, which is a few miles west of Winfield. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports an eastbound Harley-Davidson was eastbound when a deer entered the highway and was struck by the motorcycle. 

The patrol's crash log identified the woman as Salena Dennis of Wellington. She died in the crash, according to the Cowley County Sheriff's Office.

One person has been killed in a crash involving a motorcycle near Winfield on Wednesday morning, the Cowley County Sheriff's Office says. 

The sheriff's office says that just before 5:30 a.m., deputies were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash in the 4000 block of U.S. 160 Highway. A motorcyclist was confirmed deceased at the scene.

The CCSO along with the Kansas Highway Patrol are investigating the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing and authorities say more information will be released at a later time.
