EMPORIA, Kan. (KAKE) - A former City of Emporia employee has been arrested on suspicion of theft.

Kevin W. Wiggins, 51, of Lebo was arrested Friday morning. Wiggins is a former underground utilities supervisor for the city.

A criminal investigation began after police were notified of suspicious activity on city property back on April 16 of this year. The case led detectives to other parts of Kansas, and even as far away as Iowa. Ultimately, detectives found probable cause to believe Wiggins engaged in felony theft against the city.

Following Wiggins' arrest, police were notified that he was no longer employed with the city. Formal charges are pending review by the Lyon County Attorney's Office. KVOE radio reports that Wiggins was named to the supervisor post in June 2020.

While an arrest has been made in this case, the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Emporia Police Department Investigations Division at 620 343-4219, or Lyon County Crime Stoppers at 620 342-2273.
