BENTLEY, Kan. (KAKE) -

Family members have identified a 2-year-old boy who died after he was struck by a vehicle at a home in northern Sedgwick County.

The accident happened just before 3 p.m. Sunday in the 12300 block of West 101st Street, which is southeast of Bentley. Capt. Keith Allen with the sheriff's office said the toddler was hit by a vehicle that was backing out of the driveway. He said the boy was behind the vehicle and the driver didn't see him.

The child, identified as Fernando Martinez, died a short time later at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

Capt. Allen said there was a gathering at the home at the time and could not say whether the child lived at the home or if the adult driver and boy were related.

The case remains under investigation. The boy's family tells KAKE News that notifications are complete and gave permission to share his name and photo.

A GoFundMe account has been established to help Fernando's family.
