Wins for Kansas: HumanKind Ministries
For almost 135 years, Humankind Ministries has helped homeless and low-income people in Wichita find their way.
"Affordable housing, there's a huge need for that and also for services for the homeless population in Wichita. I mean many woman and children we serve families, individuals, adults,” says director of development, Angela Perez.
They run three homeless shelters and have more than one hundred low income apartment units. They also provide street outreach and case management. All with the goal of helping the vulnerable when they need it most.
"We have the emergency winter shelters that are open during the coldest months of the year. And then also our year-round shelters for families and that makes us kind of unique,” says Perez.
But they also need your help in order to help others. They're accepting donations of blankets, coats, food and money as we head into the winter months.
"We're gearing up for Operation Holiday, which is the biggest holiday distribution program in Sedgwick County."
To help with their mission, KAKE TV and our partners, DeVaughn James Injury Lawyers are honored to them as this week's, “Wins for Kansas.”
