Trial set for Kansas woman charged with killing 7-month-old daughter

WELLINGTON, Kan. (KAKE) -

A woman accused of killing her 7-month-old daughter last year has pleaded not guilty and will head to trial this fall. 

Shelby Johnson, 26, is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder in the alternative, child abuse and aggravated child endangerment in the death of Jesslinn Hulett

criminal complaint accuses Johnson, of Arkansas City, of cruelly beating and shaking Jesslinn, causing great bodily harm with injuries consistent with blunt force trauma. 

The girl's father took her to a hospital in Sumner County on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018 after she quit breathing. She'd suffered head injuries, healing rib fractures and retinal hemorrhages and died at a Wichita hospital four days later.

Johnson and her daughter were staying with Johnson’s boyfriend in Wellington the night of the alleged incident that led to Jesslinn’s injuries.
