WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

A Wichita man has been sentenced to 71 years in prison for trying to kill another man on three different occasions.

A news release from District Attorney Marc Bennett states that 31-year-old Tremain Shears shot at Marcqual Hightower three separate times in 2016. The shootings occurred in April, July and September resulting in Hightower being wounded three times in the legs.

During the July incident, Hightower was at his grandmother's home in Wichita when Shears drove by and fired over a dozen times at the house. Nobody was hit or injured.

Shears was put on trial for the shootings in 2018. After the trial, Shears managed to remove his GPS monitoring bracelet and fled to Oklahoma City where he was arrested a few days later.

A motive for Shears' attacks on Hightower was never released in court.
