Report: Towne West Square in Wichita is for sale

Posted: Updated:

The Towne West Square mall in Wichita is for sale, according to a real estate research website.

Commercial Real Estate Direct reports the 899,285-square-foot mall, about half of which serves as collateral for a $45 million loan, is owned by Washington Prime Group.

NKF Capital Markets has been hired to market the property for sale. The report does not list a sale price.

The property started suffering three years ago when Sears vacated the 122,736 square-foot space it had leased at the property, the report says.

The Washington Prime Group is a spin-off from Simon Property Group, according to the company's website. The mall, located at 4600 West Kellogg, is home to dozens of retailers, such as Dick's Sporting Goods, but some of the retails space is vacant.

Patiance Cunningham, manager of the Life Uniform store in the mall, told the Wichita Business Journal in September that she was moving the store out of the mall to a new nearby location for more traffic. She called Towne West a "ghost town."
