Police in Lubbock, Texas, say they've arrested the parents of a month-old boy after the child was hospitalized with critical injuries.

The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports 20-year-old Gary Lee Fox and 22-year-old Makayla Fricke were arrested Tuesday morning for felony injury to a child intentionally and knowingly causing bodily injury.

According to an arrest warrant, Fox admitted to beating the child while changing his diaper and Fricke allegedly failed to report the abuse and failed to immediately take him to the hospital.

Officers were called Saturday to a local hospital where the infant was being treated for life-threatening injuries including skull and rib fractures and bleeding in his eyes and brain.

Police records show Fox initially denied that he injured the boy. But when investigators told him that abuse was the only cause of the boy's injuries, he admitted to punching the child in the ribs, abdomen and head, at least five to seven times, and “probably a lot more than that.”

The warrant says Fox admitted he was angry that he had to take care of the boy by changing his diapers because Fricke was asleep and the boy would not stop screaming.

Fricke said that Fox told her he hit the boy and was taking his frustration out on the child.

Fox was jailed on $200,000 bond. Fricke’s bond was set at $75,000.
