INDEPENDENCE, Kan. (KAKE) -

A Kansas football coach who was featured on the Netflix program "Last Chance U" has resigned, days after controversial text messages were made public.

Independence Community College head coach Jason Brown announced his resignation in a post on twitter. His announcement comes days after texts from Brown to a football player from Germany were reported by the Montgomery County Chronicle newspaper.

One of the texts included Brown writing, "I'm your new Hitler."

In his resignation statement, Brown wrote, "Given what has most recently been allowed to transpire, it is clear, that it will be nearly impossible to stay here. More plainly, the Montgomery County Chronicle has greatly diminished my ability to successfully do my job and has set this program back significantly."

In a statement, ICC President Dan Barwick wrote, "this has been a painful episode for the entire campus and community, and its conclusion allows us to fully focus on the students we serve."

Brown had been at Independence since 2016. "Last Chance U" followed the Pirate football team through the 2017 season. A documentary series on the 2018 season is expected this summer on Netflix.
