Fans from across Cowley County and beyond are lining up to eat at Neives' Mexican Restaurant in Winfield.

"I can't tell you how amazed I am. I'm blessed. I'm truly blessed by all the support that we've had," said Tudy McCreary, owner.

The restaurant will close its doors on Saturday night after serving the community for nearly 18 years.

McCreary opened the doors to the restaurant, near 9th and Main Street, on April 16, 2001.

She said her philosophy has been simple: Have good food and good customer service.

"We had a great customer base but I did not have any idea that from the time it went out (about their closure), and it continues today, we have a line," said McCreary.

The family plans to renovate the building and turn it into a venue for local banquets.

A limited number of menu items will continue to be served on the Neives' Food Truck. They plan to operate it throughout the week and will post locations on their Facebook page.

As for McCreary, she is looking forward to retirement and spending more time with her husband and their grandchildren.

"I'm excited for it. I'm going to be sad. Makes me sad just thinking about it, but I'm excited for the new 'not doing anything.' It's a lot of work but it's been a great ride," said McCreary.

The restaurant staff will serve their final customers on Saturday, February 23, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
