MANHATTAN, Kan. (KAKE) -

Authorities say a 9-year-old girl died, and a woman and four other children were hurt in a crash involving three vehicles on a northeast Kansas highway.

The accident happened at around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the junction of routes 24 and 77 near Manhattan. The Kansas Highway Patrol says a Nissan Pathfinder pulled out in front of another vehicle and was struck. The Nissan then collided with a GMC pickup.

One of the five children in the Nissan, 9-year-old Isabella Plemons of Riley, died Wednesday morning at Wesley Medical Center, which is in Wichita. The driver, 25-year-old Lauren VanMeter of Manhattan, and the four other children were hospitalized.

KTKA reports an 8-year-old was flown to KU Medical Center and remains in serious condition. Two infants and a 2-year-old were treated and released for their injuries.

The other two drivers were not hurt.
