Sedgwick County Manager out after a close vote

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Sedgwick County Manager Mike Scholes is out of a job, following a close vote of County Commissioners.

Commissioners voted 3-2 to reach a resignation settlement with Scholes following a closed door session this morning.  Commission chairman David Dennis and Michael O'Donnell voted no.  "Both parties have agreed that it was in Sedgwick County’s and Mr. Scholes’ best interest to part ways.” said Dennis.

"We've been dealing with this for months, so ultimately we're going to come to this conclusion. It was just how fast we got there," added Commissioner David Unruh.

Scholes recently came under fire from commissioners for cooperating with the FBI in its criminal investigation of O'Donnell.  The settlement will pay Scholes $205,000, which is the equivalent of slightly less than nine months’ salary with benefits.

Scholes was selected as County Manager by commissioners in September, 2015.

Tom Stolz has been named interim manager.
