A 28-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection to the shooting death of a man in southeast Wichita.

Aubrey Oliver made his first court appearance Thursday, where he was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon by a felon. He remains jailed on $250,000 bond.

Oliver is accused in Saturday's shooting death of 43-year-old  Ray Nunley near Pawnee and Oliver. Police say Nunley left his home to intervene in an argument in an adjoining duplex.

"During this argument, several shots were fired and the victim, Mr. Nunley, was struck several times, at which point he was able to walk back to the front of his residence where he collapsed and died," Lt. Jeff Gilmore said earlier this week.

Oliver's next court date was scheduled for November 19.

Police have identified a 43-year-old man who was shot and killed during an argument in southeast Wichita. 

The shooting happened at around 5:40 a.m. Saturday in the 2200 block of South Glendale, near Pawnee and Oliver. Lt. Jeff Gilmore said the person who called 911 reported there were people fighting and shooting that one person was lying in front of his home. 

Officers and EMS arrived on scene and pronounced Ray Nunley dead.

Investigators learned there was a disturbance in an adjoining duplex prior to the shooting. 

"Mr. Nunley went next door to calm things down, " Lt. Gilmore said. "During this argument, several shots were fired and the victim, Mr. Nunley, was struck several times, at which point he was able to walk back to the front of his residence where he collapsed and died."

Police have arrested 28-year-old Aubrey Oliver in connection to the shooting. He was booked for first-degree murder and a parole violation. he was held Sedgwick County Jail on $250,000 bond.

Kansas Department of Corrections records show Oliver served time in prison for conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. He was arrested in 2008 and was paroled in July.

Nunley's death was Wichita's 42nd homicide of 2018.
