Kansas Highway Patrol honors fallen officers

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KAKE) -

The Kansas Highway Patrol is honoring officers who were killed in the line of duty on the roadways where they worked.

A ceremony was held at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson today.  In addition, sections of Kansas highways will be renamed in honor of the troopers who died.  

Graveside and memorial services will be held around the state over the next two months.  They are open to the public.  

Troopers killed in the line of duty:

Trooper Maurice Plummer, automobile crash,  Dec. 16, 1944

Trooper Jimmie Jacobs, automobile crash, October 6, 1959

Trooper John McMurray, vehicular assault, December 9, 1964

Lt. Bernard Hill, automobile crash, May 28, 1967

Sgt. Eldon Miller, gunfire, Jan. 19, 1968  

Trooper James Thornton, gunfire, October 2, 1973

Trooper Conroy O'Brien, gunfire, May 24, 1978

Trooper "Bud" Pribbenow, gunfire, July 11, 1981

Master Trooper Larry Huff, automobile crash, November 26, 1993
