A small, single engine plane crash occurred in Comanche County Friday afternoon.

Crews responded to the crash at approximately 1:11 p.m. The plane went down near the Coldwater municipal airport.

According to a witness, the pilot told him he was landing at the Coldwater municipal airport when a wind gust caused him to lose control of the plane, sending it into a field near the runway.  Both the pilot and his passenger were able to get out of the plane before it caught fire.

The pilot suffered first and second degree burns on his legs and arms. His passenger was covered in cuts. Both were taken to the Comanche County hospital for treatment. Kansas highway patrol is helping in the investigation.
