WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Authorities say a 25-year-old man shot and killed his ex-girlfriend in north Wichita and fled the state before returning and committing a robbery.

Wichita police are searching for Juan Carlos Caballeros-Yesca in connection to Saturday afternoon's death of 41-year-old Lucy Mojica. He was last known to be driving a black 2010 Volkswagen Beetle with Minnesota tag number 119TDG.

Officers were called just after noon to a shooting in the 500 block of West 17th Street North, near Arkansas. They arrived to find Mojica had been shot several times. She later died at a local hospital.

Lt. Jason Stephens said while investigating the crime, investigators learned Caballeros left the state.

"And then at some point, at about 2 or 3 a.m., in the early-morning hours of Sunday, the 8th, he did return...back to Wichita and went to a address in the 1900 block of West 35th Street South and committed a robbery, where he contacted a individual that he knew and demanded money at gunpoint."

Police have received tips that Caballeros may have fled to Texas or Mexico. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at (316) 267-2111.

Mojica's death was Wichita's 30th homicide of 2018.
