Woman believed to be oldest in Kansas dies at 108

TOPEKA, Kan. (KAKE) -

A Kansas woman thought to be the oldest in the state has died at the age of 108. 

Edna Martha Shaffer passed away on Monday in Topeka, where she lived most of her life. She was born September 1, 1909.

Her obituary says Edna attended St. John's Lutheran School and Washburn High School in Topeka. She and her husband of nearly 70 years, Eugene, loved to travel with their church groups and sing in a senior choir.

Edna enjoyed playing cards and participating in weekly outings with her friends. Her husband died in 2002.
