WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

For those struggling to get by in these record-high temperatures, relief is on the way.

The Salvation Army is giving away hundreds of fans to help those most vulnerable to the warmer weather. It hopes to help those who are elderly, disabled without access to air conditioning or those who cannot afford to purchase one for their family.

HOW TO GET A FAN

People should head to The Salvation Army’s City Command Complex at 350 N. Market in Wichita between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday, June 14. For those who want to get a fan, they need to bring their ID, proof of address and an electric bill. The fan giveaway is first-come, first-serve. People can only get one fan per family.

This is the first round of fan distributions for the summer. These fans are provided by donations through Westar Energy. Another partnership with Westlake ACE Hardware stores in Wichita, Andover and Hutchinson will also help those in need.

HOW TO DONATE

ACE Hardware will have their annual Fan Drive and Cookout Celebration on Saturday, June 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Westlake ACE Hardware, 8829 Central Street, near Central and Tyler. It’s hosted by the American Legion Riders. They’ll be taking donations and using all proceeds to purchase fans to give to The Salvation Army in July. People can buy a hot dog, hamburger, chips and a drink in exchange for a donation of their choice. People can also donate when they shop at the hardware store.
