Local business owners team up to catch thieves

Thieves have targeted the Auto Medic in south Wichita again and again.

"We've reported a lot of stuff to the police and they just don't seem like they want to do anything about it,” said co-owner Morgan Fuksa.

Fuksa says he's seen more thefts than normal in the last six months, costing the shop hundreds of dollars.

"We're not claiming insurance on it; we just pay for it out of our pockets,” Fuksa stated.

Now, he's teamed up with a neighboring business to help catch the thieves.

Zach's Car Wash owner Bill Myatt put up cameras that can see both shops after burglars cost him over $2,000.

"It's frustrating and aggravating, and it wears me out,” said Myatt.

The cameras captured a woman stealing money out of the car wash money box.

Although she and the driver got away, the cameras have helped catch others.

"We pinned them in a car wash bay, called the police and still couldn't get an arrest made,” Myatt recalled.

But both owners say they are frustrated with how long it's taking to catch the serial burglars.

They hope by sharing the surveillance video someone will recognize them.

"We're watching 'em, so we know who they are; we know where they are. We've got their license plate numbers,” said Myatt.

If you recognize the car or woman in the surveillance video, call crime stoppers at (316) 267-2111.
