WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

A 6-year-old girl was reunited with her mother after a suspect stole the woman's SUV while the child was still inside Wednesday evening.

The mother left her keys and her sleeping daughter in her Cadillac Escalade while she went into the Lost Sock Laundromat at 921 South Seneca. When she exited at around 7 p.m., the SUV and her daughter were gone and she called 911.

Lt. Travis Rakestraw with the Exploited and Missing Child Unit said while officers were searching the area, investigators were working with the KBI to issue an Amber Alert.

"Before we could get that alert issued, officers did locate that vehicle in the 2600 block of South Osage," Lt. Rakestraw said. "...the girl was still asleep in the back seat."

The SUV was found at around 8:45 p.m. The suspect fled the area and has not been located.

The girl was checked out by EMS and reunited with her mother.

"We don't believe she...saw anything. She probably just slept right through it, didn't know she was in any danger. But that's probably a blessing here."

Lt. Rakestraw did not have a suspect description, but he said witnesses saw a male running southbound in the area.

Investigators were processing the vehicle and searching for evidence.

Officer Charley Davidson said Friday morning that the mother will not face any charges.
