Wellington police officer struck by car

WELLINGTON, Kan. (KAKE) -

A Wellington Police officer escaped serious injury when he was struck by a car. 

The accident happened at 7:30 a.m. at U.S. Highway 160 and 16th Street. Wellington Police Chief Tracy Heath said the officer was directing traffic at the scene of an accident when a driver failed to see him and struck him with a vehicle. 

The 40-year-old officer was treated at the scene and taken to a hospital as a precaution.

The officer has been with Wellington Police since 1998.
