Icy roads cause dramatic crash

Posted: Updated:

The icy roads in Nickerson, Kansas lead to a young driver crashing his SUV through the side of a building.

The Reno County Sheriff reports on its’ social media accounts that John Mayo, III, lost control of his vehicle Thursday afternoon on ‘snowpacked’ roads and crashed into Flick’s Bar and Grill.

Mayo’s Chevy Blazer did not only collide with the building, but ended up parked halfway inside.

“We just heard what sounded like a big explosion,” said bar owner Troy Flickinger. “There was debris flying everywhere.”

As the Blazer crashed into the bar’s wall, threw one of the bar patrons across the room. That man says he has a swollen ankle and some back pain from the accident.

The collision was all caught on an adjacent buildings security camera.

The damage to the bar is expected to be in the thousands, but the bar is currently in operation with a temporary wall being constructed.

“We got to pay the bills,” Flickinger joked.

It is not immediately known if the driver of the Blazer was ticketed for the accident. KAKE News is awaiting comment from the Reno County Sheriff’s Office on the incident.
