NEWTON, Kan. (KAKE) -

The Newton Police Department says an animal control officer and a firefighter rescued an injured duck from an icy pond on Tuesday.

The department said in a Facebook post that the duck's injuries prevented it from moving as the water froze and it got stuck in the ice.

Video shows the rescue crew using a small boat and breaking the ice to free the duck and haul it aboard.

The rescue crew used a small boat and broke the ice freeing the duck and used a net to haul it aboard. The bird was taken the Hutchinson Zoo Wildlife Rehabilitation facility for treatment.
