Multiple people displaced, firefighter injured during apartment fire

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Several people are without a place to stay, and multiple firefighters had to be treated after fighting an apartment fire in Wichita.

A neighbor saw the smoke around noon Sunday at the complex near 21st and north Tyler road and called 911.

Firefighters say it was believed three people were inside the burning apartment, but after a thorough search they did not find anyone inside.

Firefighters say the heat made the fire fight difficult. One firefighter was taken to the hospital for a heat-related illness and a few others were treated on the scene.

The battalion Chief says the building has an estimated damage cost of $100,000 and 12-15 people are displaced.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
