DERBY, Kan. (KAKE) -

A real estate group based in Kansas City plans to develop a new 30-bed hospital and medical office building in Derby.

A statement issued by CBC Real Estate Group Wednesday said Rock Regional Hospital will be built north of Patriot Avenue and west of Rock Road, beginning later this year. The goal is to have the hospital in full operation in 2018.

The project was announced Tuesday during a Derby City Council public hearing on STAR Bonds. The hospital and office building will be built in a proposed STAR Bond District, with the hospital costing about $40 million. It will include three emergency department rooms.

CBC said the hospital will be operated by Candor Healthcare of Texas. Its projects include Central Oklahoma Surgical Institute in Norman.
