Jake Schlegel is the weekend sports anchor at KAKE-TV. He joined the team in August of 2013.
Jake grew up on a farm in Western Kansas and is thrilled to be back in the Sunflower State. He left the state just long enough to get a degree in broadcast journalism at the University of Missouri in Columbia. While there, he worked at KOMU-TV for three years. During his time in Columbia, Jake covered local sports and everything Missouri Tiger related, including Mizzou's transition from the Big 12 to the SEC. Covering the final Missouri-Kansas basketball game in Columbia in 2012 was his favorite assignment. Of course, that was arguably the best game that has ever been played at Mizzou Arena, as the Tigers rallied from eight down late to win.
Though Jake has a little Tiger blood in him, he is still a Kansan at heart. After all, he spent 18 years in the great state of Kansas before he went to college. Jake was raised in the wilderness near Ogallah. He grew up chasing cattle and building fence for exercise. Now Jake prefers to get his exercise playing tennis and running (wherever there aren't cattle). He loves playing games, eating exotic foods and meeting new people.
