Harden’s Career-High Leads Wichita State To Win Over Evansville

Harden shot a blistering 10-for-11 from the field and was one rebound away from a double-double. She also had four assists. Jessica Diamond, Michaela Dapprich and Darice Fountaine each added nine points in the winning effort.

Samantha Heck led Evansville with 17 points, shooting 8-for-9 from the field. Laura Friday added 12 points.

Evansville (8-16, 6-7) jumped out to a 6-4 lead by the first media time out, and a 3-pointer by Kat Taylor stretched their lead to 11-4 at 13:08 mark in the first half.

Later in the half, Fountaine ended a 7-0 run by Evansville with a long 2-pointer from corner. The jumper started an 8-2 run for Wichita State (18-8, 12-2) that was capped by a steal and layup by Harden with 7:52 on the clock, cutting the Ace's lead to 20-15.

Harden continued to keep the Shockers in the game when her jumper at the free-throw line to put the Evansville lead at 22-21 with 5:59 left in the half.

Fountaine tied the game at 24 with a 3-pointer from the right corner and a few minutes later, a Price layup and free-throw gave Wichita State their first lead of the game at the 2:15 mark, 29-26.

The Shockers closed the half on a 10-0 run to go into the break ahead 34-26. Harden led the way with 12 points, shooting 5-for-6 from the field. Fountaine added eight points in the half, going 2-for-3 from behind the arc. As a team Wichita State shot 14-for-24 (.583).

Harden started the second half on the right foot for Wichita State, grabbing an offensive rebound and making the put-back layup to put the Shockers up 36-26 at the 19:34 mark.

Evansville went on a 6-0 run midway through the second-half to get the Wichita State lead back below 10, 44-36 with 13:56 remaining. Price quickly answered on the next offensive possession with a jumper that put the Shockers up 46-36.

Harden solidified her career high in points with a 3-point play at the 7:34 mark that put Wichita State up, 55-43.

The Shocker women shot 30-for-63 (.476) from the field for the game and held the Purple Aces to 17-for-46 (.370). They also forced 16 turnovers and won the rebounding battle 37-28.

Wichita State stays home to play Southern Illinois on Saturday, February 23 at 7:05 p.m inside Charles Koch Arena.
