The Shockers collected 10 hits for the game with five of them coming in the ninth inning. Wichita State dropped to 18-15 overall and 4-2 in MVC play.
Indiana State scored four runs on four hits and one error in the first inning to take an early 4-0 lead. An RBI double from Koby Kraemer scored Cody Zimmerman and Robby Ort singled in Kraemer to give the Sycamores a 2-0 advantage. A fielding error by the Shockers allowed Ort to score and Jacob Hayes came across the plate after a wild pitch for the fourth run of the inning.
The Sycamores tacked on another run in the third inning after Jacob Hayes smacked a ground rule double that scored Kraemer for a 5-0 lead.
Two Shocker fielding errors in the sixth inning allowed two more Sycamore base runners to score the final two runs of the game. Jordan Pearson singled up the middle and would round all of the bases and score after a misplayed ball by the Shockers. Tyler Wampler scored on the play as well after reaching on a fielding error prior to the Pearson single.
Wichita State finally came to life in the ninth inning. Johnny Coy reached on a hit-by-pitch and Erik Harbutz singled before Tanner Kirk drove in Coy for the Shockers first run of the game. Moore then blasted his first career hit over the left field wall for a three run homerun to bring Wichita State within three runs, 7-4. Tyler Baker then doubled down the right field line and scored on an RBI double from Mikel Mucha and the Sycamore lead was 7-5. Kurt Kudrecki ended the ninth inning rally and retired the next two Shocker batters to end the game.
The Shockers will travel to Manhattan, Kan. on Tuesday, April 9 to take on the Kansas State Wildcats in one nine inning contest. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
