Casey Gillaspie went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a home run, while Micah Green went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Kris Gardner earned the win. He went six innings and gave up one run with five strikeouts.
WSU led off the first inning with a hit by pitch and walk by Cody Bobbit and Tanner Dearman and Casey Gillaspie doubled to left-center to drive in both runners for a 2-0 lead. With two outs, Micah Green singled to left field to drive in Gillaspie and Tyler Baker scored on wild pitch for a 4-0 lead.
The Shocks put up four more runs in the third inning. Baker led off with a home run and after back-to-back walks for Erik Harbutz and Micah Green, WIU starter Nick Smith advanced both runners with a wild pitch. Mikel Mucha then hit an infield single to drive in Harbutz and Green scored on a balk for a 7-0 Shocker lead. Mucha came home on an RBI groundout from Bobbit to increase the lead to 8-0.
Gillaspie hit his third home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth for a 9-0 lead. WIU got on the board in the sixth inning with a run to cut the lead to 9-1.
With two outs in the sixth, Parker Zimmerman doubled to left-center and scored on a single from Erik Harbutz. Green singled to drive in Harbutz and make the score 11-1.
The Leathernecks added two runs in the ninth for the final score of 11-3.
The Shockers are next in action on Sat., March 2 against New Orleans at 12 p.m. in Conway, Ark.
