July 5 - Practice rounds are wrapping up at the U.S. Senior Open in Hutchinson. No matter how much you prepare for it, a sudden influx of tens of thousands of people can always create some unexpected problems.
Opening rounds start Thursday, but officials say the last few days have been pretty hectic. Greg Conrad is the tournament director. Conrad says he's been making adjustments to crowd control and security.
"It just means that we have to work a little bit harder to make sure that everybody has a good time," said Conrad.
More than 130,000 people are expected to attend the tournament. That can mean big money both for vendors and the city of Hutchinson. Tax revenue from all the vendors' food plus the the amount generated by souvenirs could bring thousands of dollars into the city.
Those who plan on going out to Prairie Dunes need to get there early. Tee time starts at 7:00 a.m. Kansas native Tom Watson is scheduled to tee off on the back nine around 8:00 a.m.
