KU, K-State both head to Omaha for NCAA Tournament

Kansas gets Number-1 seed
UNDATED (AP) -- Kansas, the Big 12 champion, is the top seed in
the Midwest region and earns a short trip to Omaha, Nebraska, for a
first-round game against Big Sky champion Portland State.
The marquee matchup in the Midwest region may be between
Number-6 Southern California and Number-11 Kansas State. It will
feature two of the nation's top freshmen Southern Cal's O.J. Mayo
and K-State's Michael Beasley.
Other Midwest games pit Number-8 UNLV against Number-9 Kent
State; Number-4 Vanderbilt against Number-12 Villanova; Number-2
Georgetown vs. 15 Maryland-Baltimore County; Number-7 Gonzaga vs.
Number-10 Davidson; and Number-3 Wisconsin vs. Number-14 Cal State

Kansas State seeded No. 11 in Midwest Regional, to Southern Cal

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) -- Kansas State is headed for the NCAA
tournament for the first time in 12 years.
The Wildcats and super freshman Michael Beasley are seeded
Number 11 in the Midwest Region and will play Number 6 seed
Southern Cal on Thursday in Omaha.
Adding intrigue to the match, Kansas State freshman Bill Walker
is best friends with the Trojans' star freshman, O.J. Mayo.
The two were high school teammates in Cincinnati and frequently
call and e-mail one another.
Kansas State will be looking for its first victory in the NCAA
tourney since 1988.
With Beasley having the best individual season in school
history, the Wildcats finished 20-and-11 in Frank Martin's first
year as head coach.
