Shockers fall to UMKC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Kenny Simms hit two free throws with 15.7 seconds left, helping Missouri-Kansas City end a four-game losing streak with a 59-56 win over Wichita State Saturday night.

Simms, playing his first game for the Kangaroos after transferring from Florida International, made the clinching free throws after grabbing a rebound on a missed free-throw attempt by Wichita State's Matt Braeuer. Simms, who had nine points and blocked four shots, was 1-of-6 from the free throw line before hitting the final two.

Dane Brumagin and Reggie Hamilton led UMKC (4-7) with 13 points each.

Braeuer led Wichita State (5-4) with 14 points and five assists, and DJ Durle added 10 points.

UMKC trailed 28-19 at halftime, but closed the game with a 21-10 run, taking the lead for good on Brumagin's give-and-go layup with 27 seconds left.

The Kangaroos had a 42-31 rebounding advantage and turned it over just eight times.
