MONTREAL (AP) -- The United States enjoyed a near-perfect start
to the Presidents Cup winning five of the six alternate-shot
matches on day one.
Steve Stricker and rookie Hunter Mahan (MAY'-han) began the day
at Royal Montreal with a 3-and-2 victory over the Australian duo of
Adam Scott and Geoff Ogilvy.
Tiger Woods and Charles Howell the 3rd closed it out with a
3-and-1 decision over K.J. Choi and Nick O'Hern.
The International team got its only point when Americans Woody
Austin and Phil Mickelson conceded a short par putt on the 18th
hole to Mike Weir and Vijay Singh (sing).
So with six matches in the books, the Americans lead the
International team 5 and a-half to one half.
