Kansas linebacker and former Hutchinson Salthawk Ben Heeney was cited for misdemeanor battery after an incident Sunday at Tonic, a night club in Lawrence, according to the Lawrence Journal-World.

KU head coach Charlie Weis said Saturday that he is aware of the incident.

“We are fully aware of the situation involving Ben. We have discussed this with all of the parties involved and believe we know what truly happened. We are handling it internally with appropriate measures," Weis said.

The newspaper also reports that Douglas County court records do not indicate Heeney was booked into jail.

The Hutchinson, KS native was KU's leading tackler in 2012 with 112 tackles as a sophomore.
