Our first KAKE Sports Student-Athlete of the Week of 2011-2012 comes from the very first game of the school year. Wichita West sophomore Johnny Rogers earns the honor after a one goal, three assist performance in the Pioneer's season opening win over Mulvane.
"West is usually the underdog but we came out with a 10-0 win," said Rogers. "One goal, three assists? I was happy."
"We had a lot of high expectations for him as a freshman," explained West head coach David Cobb. "He had growing pains but has really come around. This year he's really focused on what he's doing. He's one of those guys that is always here and always wants suggestions on how he can improve."
