Many college students are getting back in the swing of things and finding their way around campus. But are they putting safety first?

In the last decade Wichita State has increased security, by adding more lights more officers and building a police sub station near by. Plus emergency boxes are stationed through out the campus. So if you are in an emergency situation all you have to do is push a button and it will ring police and the strobe lights at the top of the pole will also go off, so people around will also know you are in trouble.

Wichita State Police Chief Charles Rummery, says the most frequent crime they see is theft. He also advice's if you have to walk at night, walk in a group or you can always call campus escort service. They will help you get to your car or dorm.

If a student leaves property like a book bag or purse unattended police will leave a warning slip which claims your property is in danger of being stolen.

It's a reminder to students to keep a close eye on their valuables.
