Hundreds of Circle High School students are sent home Wednesday, after construction crews find asbestos in the school's roof.
465 students go to Circle High in Towanda.
School officials say the amounts of asbestos found is relatively low, but the building was closed as a precaution.
Construction in the domed roof of the 40 year old school began several weeks ago. But it wasn't until crews removed part of the roof that the asbestos was found.
Tests revealed tar paper covering the roof contains 3% asbestos and the paint contains 2%.
Those amounts were not high enough for KDHE officials to require the district to close the school. As a precaution, the district decided to anyway.
Prelimintary results show the air quality to be good at the school, but officials are awaiting final test results so there will be no school Thursday.
