A new ordinance in Park City is creating a stink.
City leaders recently passed an ordinance requiring pet owners to pick up after their pooches, after the poop started to pile up.
"It got pretty bad where these kids kept walking over it and then stepping in it," Gary Bush, Park City resident said.
Bush lives across the street from Chisholm Trail Elementary School. He said kids tracked the doo through school doors.
“They've had to change shoes,” Bush said. “So it's got pretty ridiculous."
The Park City council stepped in, to the issue, requiring animal owners to remove pet waste from the public’s right of way and private property. Failure to pick up after your pet could result in a $10 fine.
“And it’s those people we are most concerned about and wanting to put a little peer pressure on them to get them to change their ways,” said Emil Bergquist, Park City mayor.
Some residents said they will start carrying pooper scoopers while walking their pets.
“From now on I’ll carry a bag,” said Mike Nickles, Park City dog owner.
