Walmart shoppers in west Wichita shared the parking lot with Wichita police Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities called to the 6000 block of W. Kellogg around 1:30 p.m. to the report of a suspicious character. Officers discovered a stolen vehicle in the parking lot, with suspicious chemicals inside.
The hazardous materials response team was called in to remove the chemicals. Officials made no further comment about the investigation.
Authorities closed the buildings' west entrance due to safety concerns. No one was hurt.
"When you have cars in a parking lot as busy as Walmart, it's just always very troublesome," said Sgt. Jess Boomer, Wichita Police Deparment. "It's not peculiar to this situation."
