John McCain says he's closing the gap in the national polls, but he seems to be mostly playing defense over the final weekend of the campaign.

The two candidates' travel plans heading into the campaign's
final weekend has them almost completely focused on states that
President Bush won in 2004. McCain will be making his way to Virginia ahead of another appearance on NBC's Saturday Night Live tonight.

Yesterday McCain told voters in Ohio his campaign is "a few
points down" but it's "coming back." Privately, his aides say
he's trailing Barack Obama by 4 points nationwide in internal
polling.

His schedule has him hitting eight states over the final three
days of the campaign, excluding his trip to the SNL studios. His running mate, Sarah Palin, has events planned in Florida today.
