The Senate budget committee's chairman reimburses his campaign fund for $4,700 after a political opponent filed a complaint about how he spent it.
The complaint against Sen. Dwayne Umbarger, a Thayer Republican, was filed with the state ethics commission by Kris Van Meteren, of Topeka.
Van Meteren questions whether Umbarger illegally spent campaign funds on personal items, including a carport at his home.
Umbarger's latest finance report listed the reimbursements. He declined comment because the matter is under investigation.
Van Meteren is the son of Iris Van Meter, also a Thayer Republican, who lost this year's primary in the 14th Senate District to Umbarger. Van Meteren filed the complaint before the August election.
