Local developers have announced plans to build a large aquarium in Bel Aire.
The building site will be near 53rd Street North and Rock Road. It's part of a 220,000 square foot sports training academy and destination resort water park that developers say will bring in 5 million tourists each year.
Developers call that number conservative and expect more people than they can handle. The goal is to make the center a one-stop shop.
The project will rely on STAR bond financing, which uses sales tax revenue paid in advance in order to fund the project. Once the project is finished, taxes generated are paid back to the state.
