An off-duty, undercover police detective is awaiting arraignment as fallout deepens from a motorcycle rally that descended into violence in New York City.
Wojciech Braszczok is expected to make a court appearance Wednesday in Manhattan. New York Police Department spokesman John McCarthy says the detective surrendered Tuesday to face riot and criminal mischief charges.
Braszczok's lawyer hasn't immediately responded to phone messages. He has previously said the 10-year NYPD veteran only witnessed other bikers attacking an SUV after it ran over a motorcyclist Sept. 29.
But two people familiar with the investigation say the detective was seen on video hitting and kicking the SUV.
The people weren't authorized to discuss the inquiry and spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity.
