Police say three children, their uncle, and their grandmother have been found dead inside an Ohio garage in what appears to be a murder-suicide.

The victims were found inside a truck with hoses leading from the exhaust pipe in the family's Toledo garage. Inside the vehicle were the bodies of 54-year-old Sandy Ford; her 32-year-old son, Andy Ford; and her grandchildren, Paige, Logan and Madalyn Hayes. The children were 10, 6 and 5.

Sandy Ford's husband called police Monday to say he found suspicious notes in the house and couldn't enter the garage.

Sgt. Joe Heffernan says the children had been primarily living with their grandparents, but their parents were trying to regain full custody. He says Sandy Ford was upset about that, and he believes that was the motive.

Firefighters in Ohio have broken into a garage and found five people dead, and police say they believe the deaths weren't accidental.

Investigators think all five might have died from carbon monoxide poisoning. The dead include three children.

Toledo police spokesman Joe Heffernan says the bodies were found in the garage of the Toledo home at about 3:15 p.m. Monday.

Heffernan said officers were called to check on those inside the house after getting a call from a concerned family member.

Lucas County coroner, Dr. James Patrick, tells The (Toledo) Blade that the victims are a 56-year-old woman, her grandchildren, ages 10, 7 and 5, and a 32-year-old man, who is an uncle of one of the children.

A flatbed car-hauler was seen backing in toward the garage.
