The team at McConnell Air Force base will show off their hard work from the past year this week to inspectors visiting the base for the 2013 Commander-in-Chief Installation Excellence Award.
In November of last year, the base was chosen as one of the top two Air Force installations to compete for the prestigious award.
The program recognizes the innovative and outstanding efforts of airmen and civilians who help operate and maintain US military installations, maximizing available resources.
The award is presented annually to one installation from each service for their effort during an October to September timeframe.
McConnell competed against more than 100 bases. Now, as a finalist for the award, the base will compete for the $1 million incentive to invest the airmen's quality-of-life initiatives.
The inspectors include one general officer and three wing commanders from bases across the Air Force. They will tour more than 45 base locations during their four-day visit.
