The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has closed a Kansas day care after finding the operator was keeping too many children.
KDHE officials say they issued an order of suspension against Dee's Day Care Home at 2809 Forest Ave. in Great Bend. Records show that on Friday, the the owner of the day care, Delilah Godfrey, refused to let agents conduct a compliance check on her business.
She later allowed the agents inside where they found 25 children ranging in age from infancy to 12. Godfrey was the only adult on the premises.
Reports show she did not have records for all the children and did not know all of their names. She admitted to the agents she had told the children to hide to avoid being seen during the inspection.
Godfrey's license was suspended and she is prohibited from caring for children. The order is subject to appeal.
