Ask.com is going back to its question-and-answers format. Ask is building a community of users to ask and answer questions, even as it finds and ranks answers from the Web.

Answers from both sources will show up on the Ask results page. Ask is building a stockpile of questions and answers in a private testing phase. Anyone can request an invitation to participate.

Users who claim to be experts on certain topics will have questions routed to them, but if they give unhelpful answers, Ask will stop sending questions. Users can vote on the best answers.

Ask is hoping for a 90% success rate in giving the answers users want. Currently it's about 60%.
